The Ebedi International Writers Residency is a private initiative for the use of writers wishing to complete their on-going works in a conducive environment at no cost to the writers. The Residency, which offers a six-week full boarding facility, has since its establishment hosted about 120 writers from 10 African countries many of whom have won several local and international literary prizes. The Residents are expected to mentor secondary school students in Iseyin as part of their community service during their stay.

The residency is a renowned program specifically tailored to support African writers. It is located in Iseyin, a town in Oyo State, Nigeria. Established in September 2010 by Dr. Wale Okediran, a prominent Nigerian writer and former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), the residency aims to provide African writers with a conducive environment to work on their projects, network with other writers, and engage in literary activities.

One of the primary objectives of the Ebedi Writers Residency is to promote African literature and provide a platform for emerging and established writers from across the continent to hone their skills and amplify their voices. The residency welcomes writers working in various genres, including fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, and children’s literature.

Participants of the Ebedi Writers Residency typically stay for a period of one to three months, during which they are provided with accommodation, meals, and a comfortable workspace. The serene environment of the residency, surrounded by nature and away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, offers writers the peace and solitude necessary for creative inspiration.

In addition to providing writers with dedicated time and space to focus on their writing, the Ebedi Writers Residency also organizes literary events, workshops, and readings to facilitate learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange among participants. Through these initiatives, the residency contributes to the growth and development of African literature and strengthens the global literary community.

Overall, the Ebedi Writers Residency plays a vital role in nurturing African literary talent, fostering creativity, and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the continent through the power of storytelling.
